Waiting until midnight to hear new Mac Miller music for the last time ever was something I was never prepared for. It’s funny how emotional shit like this gets when you are dealing with someone you grew up listening to as an every day part of your life for so long. Saying goodbye to him and his music is very fucking difficult for anyone invested in his artistry and it gives you new perspective on his life and the shit he was going through. Mac Miller’s first posthumous album has been released and it is nothing short of a masterpiece. The underlying tones of struggle, love, life and death is brought to light in a really impactful way and it is amazing to see the beautiful direction his music was heading before leaving us far too soon. Circles is the follow up to Swimming and it compliments it perfectly. It is clear that he was only getting better and improving on his talents for music and more specifically, singing.
His early music was perfect for high school kids getting high, shooting the shit and hanging with friends but this new music hits way different. He was clearing approaching superior subjects and thoughts about shit that our generation can relate to on many levels. That is why his art hits so close to home for so many of us. It is because he IS one of us. Mac was just a kid trying to get by and have a good time while dealing with demons and past bullshit that can make any sane person go crazy. We live in a fucked up world and Mac brought happiness to a whole generation by creating masterful music that was different and game changing.

Circles will satisfy life long Mac fans as well as new ones. It is beautifully crafted and extremely powerful. Hearing his voice after his death is very hard to stomach but I know I can speak for all of his fans when I say we are grateful for all the people who put work into this album after he left us. Jon Brion, who has worked with Kanye on a number of occasions was at the head of this effort and it came out brilliant. The flow from song to song is fucking great and it starts off on a very emotional note with “Circles”. The first line you hear is “Well, this is what it looks like right before you fall.” My emotional ass almost starting balling at that very second. Fuck man…
The transition from “Complicated” into “Blue World” is like going from a soothing flight in the clouds into a trip of a dream. It only gets better as the album progresses. I have been struggling trying to pinpoint my favorite song off the album because I know those feelings change on a daily basis. As of now, I have “That’s on Me” and “Hands” on repeat. His melodies are top tier and extremely catchy like always. If you have not been a fan of Mac in the past, I have a strong feeling this album will get you on the bandwagon. It is music everyone can listen to no matter what genres you are into and almost serves as a genre-less album in general.
Go give it a listen and let us know what you think. Attached are a few of my favorites off the album. Clearly deserving of 5 stars, it may be my favorite Mac album of all time… Thanks for reading and be nice to each other.
