Coming off the hype of the Ted Bundy Tapes on Netflix (which I indulged all in one sitting), Zac Efron has made his first appearance at the Sundance Film Festival as the notorious Ted Bundy. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile has mixed reviews coming out of the festival but I am assuming that most of the negative attention is directed at how they portrayed the killer. People don’t like to see monsters sexualized and glorified in film. The argument makes sense until you realize that this is actually a correct depiction of this psychopath. His charm and his sexualization is the sole purpose behind his crimes and how he convinced these victims to trust him in the first place. It is scary and fucking fascinating.
If you have not seen the Ted Bundy Tapes on Netflix then make that a priority if you have any interest in True Crime because it is extremely well done and pretty damn terrifying. It is easy to forget just how polarizing this dude was and how many times he escaped custody and continued to cause mayhem all over the country. The details of his crimes is hard to wrap your head around and make sense of. Most likely because there is no sense.
Efron looks just enough like Bundy to where this could be a very interesting and successful film. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile is currently showing at Sundance and will get a release date soon I would imagine. In the meantime here is the official trailer.
Enjoy and be nice to each other.
