There will most definitely be some Mando spoilers ahead so proceed with caution. The Mandalorian has single handedly brought the Star Wars world to life once again and it is with the help of Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Rick Famuyiwa and many many more… Including Robert Fucking Rodriguez. But we shall attend to that matter in a bit. Last year we were treated to a new Disney+ original series known as The Mandalorian. Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos) was casted as Mando and the hype was quickly met with satisfaction just after the opening couple of episodes. There are a few things that makes Star Wars great… the never ending fight between good and evil, the character development, the locations/setting, the simplicity and of course… the beautiful, beautiful, sweet, sexy transitions. The “Windows Movie Maker” transitions as I call them, are only possible with a historic franchise like Star Wars. No one else could possibly pull that off. No one.

So how has The Mandalorian brought Star Wars back to life? Some would argue Star Wars has been alive and well since it’s original inception. Which I would agree with. However, The Mandalorian has officially opened the flood gates for Star Wars universe expansion and we are now seeing it with future projects being green lit such as The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kanobi, Lando, Rangers of the New Republic, Andor and a whole lot more. Mando is the flame that ignited it all and Disney+ is officially set up to take over the game when it comes to original series. Netflix is taking hit after hit as they are now going to drop The Office from their inventory in 2021… Peacock is going to gain millions of new subscribers simply for that reason. Me being one of them.
The Book of Boba Fett has now taken over the focus of Star Wars fans attention as the series was officially teased at the end of The Mandalorian’s second season. If you are reading this blog and have not finished the second season, I suggest you stop being dumb and do so. Apologies. You are not dumb… I love you… Wait…
Mando Season 2 was special. It was exactly what we needed when it comes to true original Star Wars content and it built off the first season and doubled down on everything. The scale was bigger, the characters were more diverse and the story was twice as fun and compelling. The thing that made the original trilogy so damn good was the simplicity. It is a story of good and evil. A story of a hero and a mission for the greater good. A story of lost characters finding their way and vice versa. You are not necessarily asked to overthink or analyze every word as an audience member. The twists and turns are subtle and masterfully done. Star Wars is entertainment at it’s finest. Now when it comes to Mando, it took that formula and ran with it. Mando travels around with Grogu (Spoiler) and helps other people with their unique missions as they reward him with information or further assistance in his mission to bring Grogu to a Jedi. Simple. Of course there are surprises and ups and downs but it is done with such ease and flow that relates you back to the feel of the original trilogy. Each scene stands on it’s own. You are not forced to overanalyze a series of events because the mission and the goals of our characters are clear and methodically paced.

The other thing that makes Star Wars so enjoyable is the comic relief and breathes of fresh air. We are not always in battle or in some intense dialogue scene that builds tension. Sometimes we are just enjoying the vulnerability and personality of the characters and bizarre scenery in such an imaginative yet realistic world and sequences of character driven chaos.
Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and crew are responsible for this revitalization of the Star Wars universe and we are forever in their debt. Oh yeah… Robert Rodriguez… He will be a BIG part of The Book of Boba Fett. Yes, the man responsible for Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and many more will be executive producing, and I’m sure directing and writing some of the episodes as well. He made Boba Fett look “badass” in Mando as he said he had wanted to and now he gets the chance to build an entire world around him. What a cool fucking project to be apart of.

Anyways, that will do it for me here. Please do yourself a favor and go finish Season 2 of Mando before I annoy you some more. Thanks for reading and be nice to each other.
