Is Alex Gordon back? Hopefully I don’t jinx this.

After putting up some of the worst numbers in the league, offensively, for the past three seasons (2016-2018) Alex Gordon really needs a solid season to cap off his huge four-year, $72 million contract he signed after the 2015 season. Just to put it in perspective of what I’m referring to, he had a triple slash of .224/.309/.355 and a combined 39 home runs, 149 RBI’s, and 398 strike outs opposed to only 147 walks. Not horrific but not the best either. The one thing Gordon has always been able to do is field. The man has a cannon of an arm, can still run, and has the number one range factor per nine innings as a left fielder this season with 2.15 and has finished in the top three eight other times in his career. Of course he has been rewarded with his fielding with six Gold Gloves. Although there has been some down times for Gordon, all hasn’t been bad.

After Winning the World Series in 2015, the Royals were on their high horse and thought that Alex Gordon deserved some money. After all the bullshit early in his career, mostly due to having too lofty of expectations, Gordon finally got paid after having a very productive five years from 2011-2015. He deserved it. The man kept his shit together, never gave up, and then came back and won a World Series with the team that drafted him number two overall in the 2005 draft.

Fast forward to the 2019 season and Alex Gordon is turning back like clock. Gordon mashed during Spring Training this year to a tune of .364/.451/.523 with one home run, 10 RBI, three steals, and four doubles through 44 at bats. Gordon hasn’t slowed down one bit coming up on the quarter mark on the season as the Royals as a team are 7-17 which have them sitting pretty comfortably in last place. Gordon has done his part. Through 23 games and 86 at bats, Gordon has a triple slash of .316/.396/.593– .989 OPS with five home runs, a team leading 21 RBI’s, a team leading nine doubles, and only 11 strike outs compared to his eight walks. Too bad his team isn’t playing great right now but if the Royals somehow catch fire, there could be a chance they make a move in a weird AL Central.

It’s beautiful to see this man playing like he did back 7-8 years ago and of course playing his normal great defense out in Kansas City. If Gordon keeps this type of play up, or even keeps his numbers close to what they are now, Gordon should be looking at his fourth trip to the All-Star game July 9th in Cleveland. Along with the hopeful All-Star appearence, Gordon should be in the running for Comeback Player of the Year award. The writers better do their due diligence and do the right thing. Thank you.
