Since Fortnite arrived, there have been few to challenge it for the top spot.  Call of Duty made a solid run during the latter half of 2018 with Blackout but has lost some steam heading into 2019.

Realm Royale was another battle royale that had people questioning whether or not Fortnite was still the superior game but that didn’t last long as the viewers and the gamers were still flocking to Epic’s shooter/builder.

Now out of nowhere we have been gifted another battle royale shooter that is in fact a free to play game for both PC and console.  Taking pages from Fortnite, Call of Duty and Overwatch’s books,  Apex Legends has it all.  It has the loot system, the character based gameplay and the mechanics of a AAA shooter.

It has been hard to get too excited about other games recently because Epic has consistently kept Fortnite so fresh and entertaining but it may be time to take a step back and give Apex Legends a real chance.  The Titanfall creators took away the titans and simplified their approach by realizing that Fortnite’s structure was working and would work for them as well.  The menu and the layout is very similar and easy to get the hang of.

After 4-5 hours of gameplay, I can honestly say that this is a great game with a lot of potential.  A few friends and myself gave it a chance after seeing the top streamers advertise it on their channels and I am happy that we did.  The gameplay is smooth and the mechanics are very well put together.

Character based shooters such as Overwatch are among my favorite styles of gameplay and Apex offers exactly that.  Unique and badass characters that form a deadly team when used correctly.  Teamwork is huge and communication is key.  I can’t wait to put more hours into this game and it has been a while since I have had that feeling.

This is capitalism at its finest.  The standard has been set and developers are taking notice.  EA thinks they have the answer and I am very excited to see if that is the case.  Hop into the battlefield and let us know what you think, and after a few weeks I will revisit my opinion and let you fuckers know how I’m feeling.
