SNOWDRIFT VANILLA PORTER by LEINENKUGLE’S BREWING CO.

“I will definitely keep my eye out for Leinenkugel’s Snowdrift when ‘winter is coming’ because this would make a great Thrones themed beer after a salty meal — perhaps as Tyrion suggests; ‘…two of those little fish, and a mug of that good dark beer to wash them down. Oh, and some bacon. Burn it until it turns black.'”

Leinenkugels: 4.5 out of 5

I drank this one while watching Bloodsport, much to my wife’s chagrin. I looked ‘chagrin’ up to be sure. I am going to paste a shortened definition here from vocabulary.com, but modify it to fit the situation.

Chagrin is a noun that represents an emotion or feeling and it’s an uncomfortable one. If Kate feels chagrin, it means that she is embarrassed or distressed as a result of a failure to be able to choose something she actually wants to watch. The word chagrin means melancholy, anxiety, vexation — as in, Kate felt melancholy because she had to watch a Jean Claude Van Damme movie from the eighties.

Yep! That is exactly how she felt. We try to swap the responsibility of making the final decision on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO back and forth — not because we want the final decision, but because we don’t want it. It is a terrible decision to have to make because the options are endless. In previous cases, we have actually spent more time looking for a movie than watching it. Tonight however, I was glad to have that responsibility because I heard the guys on Junkfood Cinema’s podcast talking about Bloodsport, (I am ashamed to admit) I have never actually seen a JCVD movie, and it was available on Amazon Prime.

I plopped down on the couch and cracked open my Snowdrift Vanilla Porter after eating sausage and brussel sprouts for dinner and boy did it hit the spot. I thought I didn’t like porters, but this one has opened my mind back up to them — it was that good. It was dark, creamy, and sweet, but not too sweet. I will definitely keep my eye out for Leinenkugel’s Snowdrift when “winter is coming” because this would make a great Thrones themed beer after a salty meal — perhaps as Tyrion suggests; “…two of those little fish, and a mug of that good dark beer to wash them down. Oh, and some bacon. Burn it until it turns black.”

Next I googled, “how to pronounce Leinenkugel’s.” I felt stupid once I saw that they actually have the phonetic pronunciation right there on the bottle! It’s Pronounced Line-en-koo-guls or you can just call it a Leinie’s for short. Side note, there is actually an International Phonetic Association also known as the IPA. I thought that was kind of funny. Anyways, in my misguided google search for the pronunciation I found the video below starring Zane Lamprey, a very talented on camera host who takes you on a tour of the Leinenkugel’s brewery in Chippewa Falls, WI. It’s fast, fun, well shot, and informative.

Also check out this second video, Chinese Bar. It is one of the craziest bars I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad to have discovered this guy’s YouTube channel. He does great work and I’m pretty sure he shoots it all on his own! Definitely worth a sub for any fans of food, beer, and travel.
